Spišská Teplica

    The village Spišská Teplica is situated at the southern edge of the Popradská basin, on the northern slopes of the Vikartovská Hrast. Cistercian monks, that had a monastery in Spišský Štiavnik since 1223, founded the village. The first written reference about the village is from the year 1280. The first colonists were sc. Šoltýs colonists from the first half of the 13-th century.
    The village had a royal right to hold open markets, what caused that it grew rapidly in population. In 1530 it became a part of a deposit of the town Levoča, but already before, Samuel Spillenberger founded the first paper producing company in the Spiš region in. Jesuit monks bought it in 1697. Later (in 1776) it became property of Spiš abbacy. Municipal seal comes from the year 1714 and is stored in the State archive in Levoča.
    Nowadays the village is 31 050 m2 large and its population is about 2200 people.
