The village has been forming since 1930´s. It consists of a large number of small and modestly equipped private pensions, healing houses and stores on the periphery of busy Starý Smokovec (Old Smokovec).
The new settlement has been called Horný Smokovec since 1938, while its western part kept its original name - Pekná Vyhliadka (A Nice View).
Today Horný Smokovec is combined with Old Smokovec and is characteristic with its recreational services.
